Emily's 1st Trip To The Dentist
Emily had her very 1st visit to the dentist today. I was a little worried about how she would handle it, but at the same time, I expected nothing less from the sweet girl who always proves to her mama that she can handle most anything I throw at her (stopped nursing and dropped bottle cold turkey - no biggie / dropped the paci cold turkey - no biggie / moved to big girl bed cold turkey - no biggie).
We talked about going to the Dentist a few days leading up to our visit, so she would be prepared. "He is going to count your teeth," we told her. She is VERY into counting these days. She can count to ten.
She loved playing at the dentist in their play area. She also met a little friend. Not sure of his name, but he came up to her, grabbed her by the hand and started trying to take her to the little play area. She was hesitant at first. She looked at me with an expression of "is it ok to go with this boy?" I told her to go with him. Oh, my goodness...it was the sweetest thing ever....watching them both walk away into the play area, hand-in-hand. Although, I see it as a prelude to my future...boys taking her by the hand leading her away from me. =(
When it was time to go back, she wanted to "hold you mama." I carried her back and we talked to the nurse. The nurse was AMAZING. She asked all about what Emily was into (Elmo, Barney, Baby Dolls). She had her lay on the table and showed her the little mirror they put in your mouth. Of course, Em wanted Mommy close by, so I sat by the table. We really thought she would do great with the actual dentist, but...
When she laid down for him and he asked her to open her mouth, the tears started flowing. She let him look at her teeth, but cried the entire time. Bless her heart. The bright light, masked and gloved dentist were just to much for her little mind to wrap around. Oh well, will try again in 6 months.
